Strawberries
Secrets of the Strawberry
In order to grow, strawberries need as much as 6 hours of direct sunlight every day. Strawberries are packed with Vitamin C, folic acid and potassium. Strawberries should be picked when they are fully ripened; they do not continue to ripen after they have been picked. Strawberries are the only fruit with seeds on the outside…and the average strawberry has 200 seeds. Folklore states that if you split a double strawberry in half and share it with the opposite sex, you’ll soon fall in love. The world’s largest Strawberry Shortcake produced in 2005 was 1905 sq.ft. and was covered with more than a ton of strawberries, glaze and whipped topping! It made the Guinness book of World records in 2005 as the biggest ever. This same shortcake is reproduced each year, unveiled and cut during the Pasadena, Texas, Strawberry Festival’s opening ceremony.
